Srinagar, Aug 06 (KNO): Commuters and residents on Wednesday urged the authorities to act over recurring traffic jams at the Mominabad-Bypass in Srinagar, alleging that Sumo drivers routinely occupy nearly half the road, leading to severe congestion and daily inconvenience.
Locals from the area told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that unauthorized parking by passenger vehicles, mostly Sumos, has turned the stretch into a bottleneck.
“It has become a daily nightmare. Half the road is taken over by these drivers and no one seems to care,” said a commuter, who travels through the route daily.
Dr. Ishtiyaq Ahmad, another frequent traveller and local resident, said the issue has persisted for a long time without any concrete action. “The situation is chaotic. Emergency vehicles often struggle to pass. There is an urgent need for the authorities to step in and regulate parking and movement at this critical junction,” he said.
Responding to the issue, RTO Kashmir, Qazi Irfan Rasool told KNO that a team will be dispatched to assess the situation on the ground.
“A team from our department will visit the area. The grievance will be addressed after verifying the matter,” the official said—(KNO)
